Making of adulterated \\\'gur\\\' rampant in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Mar 22: Making of adulterated 'gur' (molasses) is rampant in Charghat and Bagha Upazilas of the district. Mobile court consisting of law enforcement agency members has recently unearthed several factories of making adulterated gur while conducting drives in various places of the upazilas.
Zakiul Islam, Executive Magistrate of the mobile court has recently punished some people involved with making adulterated gur and destroyed some adulterated gur making factories.
The court jailed one gur-adulterer Shafiqul six months of non-rigorous imprisonment and Tk 50,000 as fine in default to serve one month more imprisonment. The adulterated gur was also destroyed in public.
Meanwhile, sources of RAB-5, Rajshahi informed, some dishonest people were making adulterated gur without considering the hygiene and health of people. They were making gur using rotten, toxic raw materials in a dirty and unclean environment.
RAB also said the operation against the adulterated gur makers will be continued for the betterment of people.
It is learnt, mobile court has destroyed 1,055  maunds of  adulterated gur and seized 1,025 kilogrammes of sugar while conducting raids on different areas of Charghat upazila of Rajshahi District recently. Three people including two brothers were arrested, fined and were sent to jail in this connection.
The mobile court team consisting of members of RAB-5, Railway colony camp headed by  Magistrate Zakiul Islam conducted raids on three factories located at Gopalpur village of Charghat upazila where adulterated gur were being made.  The arrested were Robiul Islam (35) and Rashedul Islam (32) and Rajib Ali (25). Among them, Robiul and Rashedul were punished two years of imprisonment and taka one lakh as fine in dafault to serve three months more imprisonment while Rajib was also awarded six months of imprisonment.
Seized 1,055 mounds of adulterated gur were destroyed in public and 1,025 kilogramme sugar were sold in auction.
In another drive, the mobile court has destroyed 3,510 maunds of adulterated gur at Bagha upazila. Three people including a woman were arrested in this connection. They all were punished six months non-rigorous imprisonment with a fine of taka 50,000 thousand in default to serve one month more imprisonment.
The punished people were identified as Likhon Khan (18), Milon (19) and Anjana Begum (42) of Soanadaha village of the upazila.  
Mirza Golam Sarwar, Senior ASP of Rajshahi Railway Colony Camp RAB-5 informed, on a tip that adulterated gur was being made by mixing toxic coloring agent, flour and raw molasses (chitagur), they conducted a raid at Pannapara village and arrested Likhon Khan and Milon with 8,400 kilogramme of adulterated gur and awarded them six months of imprisonment with Tk 50,000 as fine.
