Malaysia quake death toll rises to 11

A devastating tremor hit Mount Kinabalu near Kundasang in Malaysia killing 11 people, officials said on Saturday. The 6.0-magnitude earthquake quake which struck on Friday, also left at least eight people missing. Authorities of Kinabalu said they took emergency steps to rescue the injured and search for the missings on Southeast Asia’s highest peak. The quake also jolted Sabah on Borneo island. The tremor triggered landslides and huge granite boulders tumbled down from the 4,095-metre (13,435-foot) peak of Mount Kinabalu. Many people were evacuated from near the picturesque mountain, a popular tourist destination in Malaysia, according to the Strait Times.
