Malaysia withdraws levy on foreign workers

Friday, 3 April 2009

The Malaysian government has withdrawn levy on the recruitment of foreign workers, Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry sources said. Earlier, every foreign worker had to pay 1800 ringit as levy to the Malaysian government. Though the employers were supposed to pay the toll, they have been realising it from the workers. Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Mosharraf Hossain, during his recent visit to Malaysia, strongly took up the matter with the human resources minister of that country and requested him to withdraw the levy, the sources said. — BSS
