Monday, 10 August 2009
Ericsson, world's leading provider of technology and services to telecom operators has signed a contract with High Speed Broadband Technology Sdn. Bhd. to supply, build, systems integrate and manage an open access network called Jalenas (Jalur Lebar Nasional) that will enable advanced high-speed broadband services, says a press release.
Jalenas's city network was launched in Kuantan, Pahang as the first phase of roll-out. This city network is the foundation for an innovative communications environment that is being built to promote economic growth and also to support the Malaysia's national Broadband plan to see 50% of household broadband penetration by 2010. The open access network infrastructure model will enable multiple service providers to further expand and improve their network and services to the consumers. The initial roll-out will be for 30,000 home and office connections in Kuantan prior to a nationwide city network roll-out.
The open access network broadband solution allows consumers/residents to select services from an internet service provider of their choice. Consumers will also be able to select individualized, high-speed broadband services, such as interactive learning, high-definition IPTV and video-on-demand, from a range of application and content service providers.
"The cooperation with Ericsson enables us to offer Malaysia its first open access model which will offer consumers Quality of Service as well as choice. Jalenas will provide an easy user interface where the consumer would be able to choose their preferred services providers and be able to access services they can afford to subscribe to", says Dato' Mohd Sharkar Hj Shamsudin, Chairman of High Speed Broadband Technology.
"Ericsson is taking the next step in delivering next-generation city network for competitive IT infrastructure solutions for open networks. Open networks provide service providers and consumers/residents, with economies of scale and the highest level of services. We are proud to be selected as the partner for Jalenas", says Krishnakumar Guda, President of Ericsson Malaysia.
