Maldives president makes stopover in city

President of the Maldives Mohammed Nasheed, who stayed nearly one hour at Hazrat Shahjalal Airport here on Friday afternoon on his way to Shanghai, China, termed Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as a "maternal figure" for them. Nasheed made the remark when he had a bilateral talks with Sheikh Hasina at the VVIP lounge of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the afternoon, Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni said after the meeting. Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Maldives President Mohammed Nasheed arrived at the airport on board Bhutanese Druk airlines flight. At the Hazrat Shahjalal Airport, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina came out of the aircraft first and later received Maldives President Nasheed and his spouse Laila Ali Abdulla at the VVIP lounge. The Maldives President also invited Hasina to visit his country at her convenience, Dipu Moni said.
