Males must stand beside females for equal women rights

Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR), Prof Dr AKM Nurun Nabi has urged the men to stand beside the females in their struggles for establishing women’s equal rights. ‘The women have to struggle at their own in establishing equal rights, dignity and honour in every sphere of life,’ he said adding that the males must think females as their companions to ensure equal male-female participations in taking the nation ahead. The VC was addressing a post-rally discussion arranged in observance of the Rokeya Day-2014, the 134th birth and 82nd death anniversaries of pioneer of women renaissance in the sub-continent Begum Rokeya on the campus as the chief guest. With Convener of the Begum Rokeya Day Observance Committee of the university Dr Tuhin Wadud in the chair, teacher of the Department of Women and Gender Studies Sajal Roy delivered the keynote presentation on Begum Rokeya. A discussion was also held where teacher of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems Omar Farooque, teacher of the Department of Public Administration Rita Kundu, teacher of the Department of Women and Gender Studies Mir Tamanna Siddika and students Urmila Barman Bithi and Shakhawat Chowdhury took part. Earlier, a colourful rally participated by the teachers, students, officials and employees of the university and led by the VC was brought out in the campus in observance of the day, according to a news agency.
