Man awarded life for raping 10-yr old

A Chittagong court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping a 10-year-old. Judge Zakir Hossain of the city’s Women and Children Repression Prevention Special Tribunal-2 also fined Md Chhagir Tk 50,000 on Wednesday. Five have testified in the case, said the tribunal’s public prosecutor MA Naser. The case details say Chhagir lured a child, who was picking firewood with a friend at the city’s Narikeltala, to an abandoned house where he raped her on March 18, 2005. The child’s father filed a case at the Bandar Police Station on Mar 20, and the charge-sheet was filed by Investigation Officer (IO) SI Khalilur Rahman on May 3 of the same year. The court indicted Chhagir on Aug 16. The prosecutor said the judge, besides pronouncing the verdict ordered the authorities to take action against the IO who didn’t show up in court to testify despite the several notices that were issued to him, according to bdnews24.com.
