Man beaten dead

A man was beaten to death in a clash between two groups of villagers at Koiardhari village in Chauddagram in Comilla on Wednesday night. The deceased was identified as Abdul Halim, 45, of the village. Police said the clash ensued following an altercation between Din Islam, 18, son of Abdul Halim, and Parvez, 20, a wayward youth, during a football match in a field at Koiardhari in the afternoon. At one stage, the young people attacked one another. Parvez beat Abdul Halim mercilessly around 9:00pm when he along with Din Islam was returning from village heads demanding an arbitration over the issue, leaving him seriously injured. Locals rescued him and rushed him to Chauddagram Health Complex. He was shifted to Comilla Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead around 9:30pm, according to UNB.
