Wednesday, 5 February 2014

A man was beaten to death allegedly by village heads at Nagdah village in Alamdanga upazila in Chuadanga on Tuesday night. The victim was identified as Shaheed Hossain, 46, son of late Aftab Mondol of the village. Quoting locals, police said Sad Hossain and Ali Hossain, sons of Apil Mondol, of the village and their neighbour Chhoton had long been at loggerheads over the ownership of a piece of land. The feuding groups sat for a solution to the matter at a local arbitration on Tuesday evening. But the two siblings – Sad and Ali – did not accept what decision the village heads gave at the meeting. Later, the village heads launched an attack on their house. At one stage, they swooped on Shaheed, cousin of Sad and Ali, and beat him indiscriminately at about 10:30 pm, leaving him dead on the spot. The village heads went into hiding after the murder. Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Alamdanga Police Station, confirmed the incident. A case was filed, according to UNB.
