Man chopped dead for land

A man was chopped to death following an altercation over a disputed land at Jaldhaka Upazila in Nilphamari district on Wednesday afternoon. The dead is Alamgir Hossain, 30, son of late Khajrat Ali. Police said when one Jahedul Islam of Sabujpara village went to a disputed land to cut bamboo his rival Rafiqul obstructed him claiming the land as their own, leading to an altercation between them. At one stage, Rafiqul picked up a sharp weapon and chopped Alamgir, leaving him dead on the spot, according to a news agency.
