Wednesday, 2 September 2015

A man has been killed in a ‘shootout’ between a gang of criminals and police in Comilla city. Police claim that the 30-year-old man was a criminal. He was wanted for robbery and attack on law enforcers, they said. He died in a ‘shootout’ early on Wednesday, OC of the Detective Branch (DB) of police, AKM Manjur Alam, told reporters on Wednesday morning. The deceased was identified as Belal Hossain alias Zira Suman. He was declared dead by doctors at a Comilla hospital after police took him there with bullet injuries, according to the DB. The DB official said, four policemen were also ‘injured’ during the ‘shootout’ around 2am on Wednesday near the Palpara Bridge in Comilla City Corporation area. Three others with firearms have been detained from the spot, OC Alam further claimed.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ali Ahsraf Bhuiyan said that a team of detectives, which included himself and OC Alam, were returning to Comilla city after a raid at Brahmanpara Upazila, when they were attacked by 8 to 10 ‘robbers’. “The windshield of our car was shattered when the robbers opened fire. Police retaliated and the two robbers were shot. Later police detained five including the two wounded,” he said.

The two, with bullet injuries, were taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital where Sumon was declared dead, said Detective Branch’s Sub Inspector Shah Kamal Akand. Four firearms, including revolver, a knife, a steel bar and masks were found from those detained, he said, according to a news agency.
