Man dies in police custody in Faridpur

An arrested accused in a land-related case died in police custody in Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur district on early Friday. The deceased was identified as Nur Mohammad Munshi, 35, a resident of Dakkhin Beel area of Nalia village in the upazila. Afsar Uddin, officer-in-charge of Nagarkanda Police Station, said following an arrest warrant issued by a local court, police arrested Nur Mohammad and his brother Nurul Islam, 30, in connection with a case filed over a land-related dispute by one Lutfur Munshi on Thursday night. On the way to police station, Nur Mohammad fell sick and was admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 12 am. Hazera Begum, mother of the victim, alleged that Lutfur Rahman along with his associates had killed his son after torturing him in police custody, according to a news agency.
