Man gets 10-yr RI for killing cousin

A court in Sylhet has sentenced a man to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment (RI) for killing his cousin in Sadar upazila 2 years ago. The court also fined convict M Ramzan Ali, 30, son of late Gazi Miah, a resident of Lamabazar of Sylhet city, Tk 100,000, in default, to suffer 2 years more of RI. According to the prosecution, on May 8, 2012, Ramzan hacked his cousin (son of father’s sister) Al Islam, son of Abdus Salam of Lakhaura village in the same upazila, to death in the city following an altercation over sharing money of their business. Ramzan was arrested from his home on that day and Al Islam’s mother Jorina Begum filed a case against Ramzan with Kotwali Police Station. On August 25, 2012, sub-inspector Khairul Alam, the IO in the case, submitted charge sheet against Ramzan. After examining 10 witnesses and documents, Judge of Sylhet Special Sessions Judge’s Court M Maidul Islam pronounced the verdict on Tuesday, according to UNB.
