Man gets 2-yr jail for torturing wife in Chandpur

A court in Chandpur on Tuesday sentenced a man to 2 years’ rigorous imprisonment for torturing his wife for dowry at Matlab (North) Upazila in the district in 2009. The court also fined the convict, Al Amin Jamader alias Mizan Jamader ,34, a resident of Ladhua village, Tk 50,000,  in default, to suffer  for 6 moths more RI. According to the prosecution, on October 18, 2009, Parul was beaten up by her husband Al Amin as she failed to bring him Tk 100000 as dowry from her father. On information, victim’s father Momin Ali rescued her and got her admitted to the upazila health complex. On October 22, 2009, Parul filed a case against Al Amin with the court concerned for torturing her under the Section 11 of Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000. After examining the witnesses and evidence, Judge Romoni Ranjan Chakma of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, Chandpur, pronounced the verdict, according to UNB.
