Man gets life for possessing Phensidyl

A court in Barisal has sentenced a man to life term rigorous imprisonment (RI) and Tk10,000 as fine or more six months in jail on charge of possessing Phensidyl two-and-half years ago. Crime Control Tribunal Judge Mohammad Rafiqul Islam pronounced the verdict on Monday afternoon in a crowded court. Court officials and lawyers said Montu Mridha was awarded life-term while another accused M Mojibor Rahman were acquitted in the same case. Detectives Branch of police arrested Montu Mridha, son of Abdul Gani Mridha, with 183 bottles of phensidyl from his residence in January, 2013. A case was lodged with the concerned police station in this connection. After the investigation, police submitted a charge sheet on February 28 in that year. The court pronounced the verdict on Monday after examining the 10 witnesses, according to a news agency.
