Two sentenced to six months in jail each for casting fake votes in Sirajganj

A mobile court has jailed three people for 15 days after they were caught paying voters to cast their ballots for Salim Uddin Talukdar, an independent candidate for the Naogaon-3 seat, report agencies.
The convicts are Md Fulbor (53), Md Swadhin Hossain (43) and Md Manju (54).
Locals detained the men in Badalgachhi on Saturday evening and handed them over to the police, according to the district's Deputy Commissioner Golam Mowla.
Authorities seized Tk 15,000 from the detainees, who confessed to using the money to tap up voters.
In Sirajganj, a mobile court sentenced two people to six months in jail each on charges of attempting to cast fake votes at a centre in Salanga thana under Sirajganj-3 constituency on Sunday.
The mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Ishrat Jahan sentenced them.
The convicts are Iqbal Hossain Sarkar (41) and Mobarak Hossain (40), hailing from Basudevkol Dakshinpara village in Raipur upazila.
Magistrate Ishrat said the duo was standing in a queue with other voters at Islamia Dakhil Madrasa centre at Basudevkol Dakshinpara.
Upon suspicion, they were challenged and interrogated about their presence in the queue, she said.
At one stage, they admitted that they stood in the line to cast fake votes, the magistrate added.
