Man jailed for possessing drugs

A court in Jessore has convicted a man and sentenced him to 10 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) for possessing contraband drugs. Additional District and Sessions Judge Farid Hossain Haidar also fined Abdul Mannan, son of late Makbul Hossain of Narangali village in Jessore Sadar Upazila Tk 5,000, in default, to suffer 6 months more RI. According to the prosecution, being tipped off, members of Narcotics Control Department conducted a drive in the house of Mannan and arrested him along with 45 bottles of Phensidyl on January 13, 2004. Later, Jessore Narcotics Control Department inspector Liakot Ali filed a case against him in this connection. After examining the records and witnesses, Judge Farid Hossain Haidar gave the verdict on Sunday, according to UNB.
