A man has been killed in a ‘shootout’ between some miscreants and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel at Mongla Upazila in Bagerhat. The incident took place at Harbaria on Monday. The RAB-8 members claimed that the victim was a ‘robber’. They identified the deceased as Nasir, alias Russel, leader of a robbers’ gang. He hailed from Rampal Upazila of the district. A team of RAB-8 was conducting a drive in Pashur River on Monday morning. Sensing the presence of the elite force, the members of the robbers’ gang fired gunshots to RAB, forcing them to retaliate, which triggered a 'shootout'. Nasir was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot. Later, RAB recovered six firearms, five sharp weapons and 169 rounds of bullet from the scene, said Lieutenant Colonel Faridul Alam, commanding officer of Barisal RAB-8, according to bdnews24.com.
