Man killed in Dhaka \\\'shootout\\\'

A man has died in the capital’s Hatirjheel area on Thursday morning during a ‘shootout’ between his associates and police. Detective Branch (DB) of police’s Deputy Commissioner (East) Jahangir Hossain Matubbar said that a pistol, three rounds of ammunition and Tk 47,000 in cash was found on the dead body, that is yet to be identified. A motorbike was seized after the ‘shootout’, Matubbar informed. He claimed that detective branch personnel at a check-post in Hatirjheel’s Ramna area signaled two motorbikes to stop. Instead, the riders fired at the police. One of the young men was hit and fell with his motorbike when police ‘retaliated’, according to the DB official. He was taken to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital around 4.45am, where the doctors pronounced him dead. Incidents of mugging, pickpocket and other forms of crimes are on the rise in the city since early this year. Hatirjheel, Kamalapur and Mirpur are the focal point of this sort of crimes, according to bdnews24.com.
