Man killed in Gazipur \\\'shootout\\\' accused of Badda multiple murders

A man, killed in what detectives claimed a shootout between his associates and the law enforcers in Gazipur Sadar upazila early Friday, was an accused in Badda multiple murders case. Police said Saidur Rahman, 35, was a criminal in Dhaka’s Badda area. His family, however, claimed that he was not involved with illegal activities or crimes. They said he was associated with Awami League’s youth front – Juba League. In the afternoon, the law enforcers averted answering whether Saidur Rahman was among those involved in the killing of four local leaders of ruling party’s Badda unit. Police, family members and residents of Badda said used to live in Shimultala in South Badda. Gazipur District Detective Branch OC Amir Hossain said Saidur was an accused in multiple murder cases. He said being tipped off, police arrested Saidur on Thursday afternoon. Saidur gave detectives the location where a pistol and bullets were hidden. The weapon and ammunitions were later recovered from Salna in Gazipur Sadar upazila. “A DB team went to recover more weapons on Friday midnight based on information divulged by him during questioning,” the DB official said. Saidur’s men were hiding in the bushes in Salna area. They began firing at the approaching vehicle. “Police retaliated and in the gun battle Saidur was hit,” he claimed. The injured was brought to Saheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital in Gazipur city around 12:10am, he added. Saidur died in less than half an hour due to excessive blood loss, said the hospital’s resident physician Abdus Salam Sarkar, according to a news agency.
