Man killed in Jessore \\\'shootout\\\'

A man was killed in a ‘shootout’ with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and police in Abhaynagar upazila of Jessore district on Friday. The deceased was identified as Mejbah Uddin, 40, son of Ramjan Ali of Magura village in the upazila. The law-enforcers claimed that Mejbah was a terrorist. Officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar police station Khabiruddin said acting on a secret information, a joint team of Rab and police conducted a drive in the village around 4 am when a group of terrorists were holding a clandestine meeting there. Sensing the presence of the joint force, the terrorists fired gunshots at them forcing the law enforcers to fire back which triggered a ‘shootout’, he said. Mejbah was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while the other gangsters escape, the OC added, according to UNB.
