A man was killed in a shootout between a gang of ‘terrorists’ and law-enforcers at Harishpur village at Shalikha upazila in Magura on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Rajib Biswas, alias Raju, 25, son of late Abdul Jalil Biswas of the village. Police claimed he was a listed ‘criminal’. Jihadul Kabir, Superintendent of Police (SP), Magura district, said Raju was arrested from Simakhali area of the upazila on Saturday night for his involvement in the theft of a Chinese made submachine gun (SMG) from police possession during election duty at a polling station in Shalikha early Thursday. According to Raju’s statement, police recovered the stolen SMG from Raju’s house on Saturday night. Later, police conducted a drive along with Raju in the same area to nab other terrorists. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, Raju’s cohorts fired gunshots at the law enforcers, forcing them to fire back which triggered a shootout. Raju was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot early Sunday, he said. The body was sent to Magura Sadar hospital for autopsy, according to UNB.
