Man killed in Satkhira \\\'shootout\\\'

A man was killed and another injured in a 'shootout' with police in Satkhira on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Ekramul Kabir, alias Babu, 40, a resident of Sultanpur area in Satkhira town. The injured is Shahidul Islam, 30. He received bullet injuries in his thigh and right leg and is undergoing treatment at Satkhira Sadar Hospital under police custody. A team of Satkhira Sadar Police Station was doing its duty at a makeshift check point at Chaltetola in the district town. Police signaled a passing black private car to stop. But ignoring the signal, the inmates of the car fired and hurled handmade bombs targeting the law enforcers, forcing them to fire back. After a 15-minute shootout, police found Babu with bullet wounds inside the car while Islam lying on the road. They were whisked off to the Sadar Hospital where Babu succumbed to his injuries around 4:30am, according to a news agency.
