Man strangulated to death in city

A middle-aged man was strangulated to death allegedly by his second wife and stepchildren in Sabujbagh area in the city on Thursday night. The victim was identified as Nuru Miah, alias Nurikkha, 48. He used to live at a house with his 2nd wife Aleya, 40, at 80 Wahab Colony under Sabujbagh police station. Police said Nuru was also Aleya’s 2nd husband. She has one son, Akash, 22, and daughter Meghla, 20, with her first husband. They had also been living with her at the Wahab Colony’s house. Locals said Nuru used to have dispute with his wife and stepchildren and they engaged in a brawl on Thursday night. At one stage, they strangled him and later hanged the body from the ceiling to make it appear that he committed suicide, alleged Monir Hossain, Nuru’s son with his first wife. Contacted, assistant sub-inspector Rawshan Ara of Sabujbagh police station said they recovered the hanging body from the house at about 2 am on Friday and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy. She also said they detained four people, including Aleya, for interrogation. Monir Hossain lodged a complaint with the police station in this regard, according to UNB.
