The activists of Ganajagaran Mancha have gathered in the city's Shahbagh area ahead of the Supreme Court verdict on the appeal against war crimes convict Maulana Delawar Hossain Sayedee’s death sentence. Witnesses said hundreds of activists of Mancha, led by its leader Imran H Sarker, gathered at Shahbagh Intersection on Tuesday evening and several hundreds of them have been staying there since then. ‘Mancha activists began converging on Shahbagh after the Appellate Division said it would rule on the appeal involving condemned war crimes convict and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Sayedee on Tuesday. They also took out a procession around 6:00pm on Tuesday from the Dhaka University’s TSC intersection. It marched from TSC to Shahbagh and back chanting slogans demanding that the SC upholds the death penalty for Sayedee for his crimes against humanity committed during the 1971 Liberation War. Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarker said: 'We hope that the Appellate Division will uphold the death penalty for Sayedee. He is a war criminal. The charges brought against him have been proved in court. People will not accept any other punishment for him,’ he said, according to a news agency.
