Manekshaw's death condoled

Awami League (AL) and some social organisations have expressed its profound sock at the death of former Indian Army Chief Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, reports UNB.
Manekshaw died of old age ailments Thursday night.
Manekshaw was the chief of Bangladesh-India Allied Forces during the War of Liberation of Bangladesh in 1971.
The party leaders, in its central working committee meeting held at its Dhanmondi office in the city Friday stood in silence for one minute and paid tributes to the departed soul.
While expressing the condolence, the leaders said that Bangalis would never forget the contributions of Indian people, government and particularly Indian Armed Forces, led by Sam Manekshaw, in the Liberation War.
They further stated that the Pakistani occupation forces, being
defeated by the freedom fighters and joint forces of Bangladesh and India under the leadership of Indian Army Chief Sam Manekshaw, surrendered after nine months of war on December 16, 1971.
The name of Manekshaw has become inseparable from the history of the Liberation War, they added.
The meeting recalled his contribution during the Liberation War of Bangladesh.
The leaders also prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and
conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
The BCS Freedom Fighter Officers-Employees Central Welfare Association also mourned Manekshaw. The association arranged a condolence meeting to pray for the departed soul.
Mohammad Musa, president of the association, said Manekshaw and his forces had set an example of showing respects to an independent and sovereign country and proved their trustworthiness.
The Ekatturer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee in a statement condoled the ex-Indian army chief's death.
Professor Kabir Chowdhury, Binod Bihari Chowdhury, singer Kalim Sharafi and sector commander CR Dutta signed the statement.
