RAJSHAHI, June 15 (BSS): The mango growers and traders are not getting fair price due to various reasons making them disheartened, said Abdus Samad, a trader of Chapainawabganj Wholesale Mango Market.
Md Muniruzzaman, president of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said there should be proper marketing system for the seasonal cash crop particularly the mango so that the growers are encouraged for raising output of the fruit.
He mentioned that the mango growers are incurring huge loss despite bumper production due to low price as too much wholesalers and businessmen from the capital Dhaka and other major cities are not coming here to purchase the seasonal delicious fruit.
Growers and seasonal traders are harvesting and marketing quality and safe mango by dint of their best uses of modern technology and other best practices in Rajshahi and Chapainawabgonj districts during the current season.
Various government and non-government organisations concerned provided training to the growers and traders on how to produce and harvest mango coupled with post-harvest handling, transportation and marketing in safe and hygienic ways. They attained significant success in this connection.
Dr Shafiqul Islam, Chief Scientific Officer of Regional Horticulture Research Center in Chapainawabgonj, said the farmers are now very much conscious about safe mango production.
They have become habituated in maintaining hygienic condition and other best practices from production to marketing. There is no alternative to substantial and sustainable promotion of modern technology and post-harvest safe management like handling, transportation and marketing to get maximum output.
