Mango orchards being made in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, July 30 (UNB): People in the district are planting mango saplings in large scale during the current rainy season favourable for its plantation.
They are enthusiastically buying mango saplings from nearby nurseries or markets for planting in order to change their lot.
The quality mangoes grow here in plenty because both the soil and weather are suitable for its production.
Many people are seen making mango orchards on high lands because of more profit than other crops.
The saplings of Amrupali, Langra, Rajbhog, Khirshapat, Mohanbhog, Laxmanbhog, Himsagar, Ranipachhanda, Dudhasagar, Misribhog and Sinduri varieties are being planted here for its quality and taste.
According to a statistics, some 350 varieties of mangoes grow in the country while mostly 280 varieties grow in Chapainawabganj and Rajshahi districts.
Once Chapainawabganj was famous for production of quality mango but now it grows in plenty in Rajshahi, local people said.
