Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Monday appointed renowned football coach Shafiqul Islam Manik as the national football coach until November next, reports UNB.

Manik replaces former national booter cum football coach Abu Mohammad Yousuf, who earlier quit from the hot seat following the national football team's debacle in the 5th SAFF Championship, co-hosted by Sri Lanka and Maldives last June.

Manik, a former football coach of Dhaka Mohammedan SC and Muktijoddha Sangsad KC, signed a formal agreement with BFF at a simple ceremony at the BFF Bhaban Monday.

He will receive a monthly salary of Tk 60,000 in addition to transport and other facilities

Manik's first important assignment as national team coach will be in the Merdeka Cup Football tournament to be held in Malaysia on October 15 to October 25.

His contract with BFF may be extended further depending on his performance during the little over 3-month tenure.

In his immediate reaction, Manik told that he would give his hundred per cent for the development of country's football.

"If we all work together, the standard of country's football is bound to improve. I believe I'll get full support from all concerned," he said.

BFF Vice-President and Chairman of National Team Management Committee (NTMC) Badal Roy, BFF Senior Vice President Abdus Salam Murhsedi, Vice President Shawkat Ali Khan Jahangir, NTMC co-chairman Nurul Alam Chowdhuy and member Golam Rabbani Helal were, among others, present at the signing ceremony.
