Manila shows interest to boost trade with Dhaka

Stakeholders from the Philippines have expressed interest to develop the economic relations with Bangladesh. They said the Philippines is viewing Bangladesh as a promising market, reports UNB.
The visiting Philippines trade team expressed the interest at a seminar on 'Promoting Bilateral Trade and Investment between Bangladesh and Philippines' organised by Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) in collaboration with Bangladesh Philippines Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BPCCI) in the capital on Monday.
Philippines Commercial Attache Jeremiah C Reyes, who was present at the programme, said the economic ties between the two countries should be closer.
"Bangladesh is a potential market. So we want to explore this promising market," he said.
The DCCI also hosted a B2B matchmaking between the visiting Filopino business delegation and their Bangladeshi counterparts.
Assistant Director of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) of the Philippines Agnes Perpetua R. Legaspi led the delegation.
Presiding over the seminar, DCCI President Osama Taseer said Dhaka and Manila bilateral trade till now has been insignificant in terms of both value and share, hovering around $65 million during fiscal year 2017-18.
