Manjurul Ahsan, Selim reelected CPB president, gen secy

The Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) has reelected Manjurul Ahsan Khan and Mujahidul Islam Selim president and general secretary, respectively reports bdnews24.com.

The new central committee was formed at the end of the party's three-day 9th Congress.

The concluding session Saturday announced a 42-member new committee, while the previous committee comprised 41.

In a change to its constitution, the party has reserved for women one third of posts in each tier of the party and made presidium members and secretaries full-time political postings.

The president and general secretary will be presidium members in line with their ranks. Newly elected presidium members included Shahidullah Chowdhury, Syed Abu Zafar Ahmed, Shah Alam, Sheikh Moniruzzaman and Shahdat Hossain.

The congress also announced a national council of 191 members.

The CPB has committees in the country's 60 districts. Apart from that the party has branch committees in Bandarban, Khagrachhari, Sherpur and Munshiganj.

The total number of CPB members across the country is 7,300.

The ninth congress began Thursday, with 13 representatives from India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, China, North Korea and Vietnam also attending.
