Manmohan Singh resigns

Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh met President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday to submit his resignation along with the resignation of his Council of Ministers. Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister chaired the last Cabinet meeting as the Prime Minister where a resolution was passed for the dissolution of the 15th Lok Sabha. He also gave a farewell speech to the nation where he thanked the people of the country for their support over the years. "Whatever I have got, I have got from this nation, a nation that instated a child born out of Partition to the highest position," he said. During his speech, he also exuded confidence that better times await the country. He wished the new government luck for the future and also said that he respected the verdict of the country. "Before the judgement of the Almighty there is the judgement in the court of the people that all public servants have to submit to. I respect your verdict,” according to a news agency.
