Bail for former state minister junior minister for Housing and Public Works Abdul Mannan Khan in a case for concealing wealth has been extended. Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ataul Haque gave the order after the Awami League leader appeared in the Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court with a plea for extension of bail on Monday. Abul Kalam Azad represented him in court. Kabir Hossain of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), which brought the charges against the former junior minister, said the magistrate’s court does not have jurisdiction to extend bail in its case. But the judge granted Khan’s plea and scheduled the next hearing on December 9. The ACC filed cases against Khan, another junior minister and an MP at Ramna Police Station on Aug 21. He is accused of not reporting more than Tk 7.5 million in his wealth statement. Following that, the former MP surrendered to the lower court on Aug 24 and sought bail. He was granted interim bail until Oct 13, according to bdnews24.com.
