Manna\\\'s bail plea rejected
Wednesday, 8 April 2015
A Dhaka court has scrapped Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna's bail plea in two cases of sedition and inciting the army, reports bdnews24.com.
The Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court dismissed the plea after a hearing on Tuesday.
Police have questioned Manna, arrested on Feb 23, twice in the cases.
He had moved to the session court after the Metropolitan Magistrate's court scrapped his bail petition.
Manna was heard telling BNP's Sadeque Hossain Khoka to engineer clashes at Dhaka University to destabilise the government in a leaked telephone conversation.
While speaking with another unidentified person, he said he was interested to play a role in extra-constitutional takeover.
Manna, pushing for an Awami League-BNP dialogue to resolve political impasse, told Khoka that he wanted to make the Oikya the "third most important party in Bangladesh".
Currently in jail, he fell sick in the second leg of remand and was hospitalised with chest pain.
