FE Report
The country's manpower export to South Korea is likely to start in October this year, sources said.
"We have already given our opinion on the draft agreement on language proficiency test that South Korean government had sent to us for signing, M Abdul Matin Chowdhury, acting secretary of the ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, told the FE.
He said the South Korean side is expected to respond to the Bangladesh government on the draft by next week.
State-run Bangladesh Overseas Employment Services Ltd (BOESL) will sign another agreement with Human Resources Division (HRD) of South Korean government after signing the agreement on language proficiency test, sources said.
"We may start taking language proficiency test of the job seekers by October in cooperation with the HRD of the South Korean government for selecting competent candidates," said a high official source.
Meanwhile, he said, the South Korean government may establish a liaison office in Dhaka.
When asked, he said South Korea, at the initial stage, is expected to recruit 2500 manpower from Bangladesh.
Official sources further said on the basis of the performance of the jobseekers the country may recruit more manpower from Bangladesh.
In March this year, South Korea announced recruitment 150,000 overseas workers under its employment permit system, from five countries -- Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, East Timor and Kyrgyzstan -- during the year 2007-2008.
Under the permit system, South Korea will recruit workers for mainly agriculture, construction, fisheries and service sectors from the countries including Bangladesh.
Each of the workers will get a monthly salary ranging between $900 and $2,000.
However, sources said an Australian government delegation is likely to visit the country soon at the request of the Bangladesh government for a study on recruitment of manpower from the country.
Besides, they said BOESL has been asked to contact with the authority concerned of the Poland government to look into the possibilities of sending manpower to that country.
