Manpower recruitment to be modified
Saturday, 29 December 2007
The government is contemplating introducing some mandatory provisions in manpower recruitment processes to protect the interest of overseas job seekers, sources said.
They said the move is being made after the expatriate workers being cheated by their recruiting agents staged demonstration in front of Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia recently.
When asked, Abdul Matin Chowdhury, secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment (MEWOET), said: "We are studying the manpower recruitment system of native countries."
He said the ministry is planning to introduce a new system of recruitment as overseas jobseekers are often deprived of promised remuneration.
About the new system, sources, however, said it will make publication of job advertisement in national dailies mandatory for recruiting agencies mentioning the nature of job in details, service tenure and remuneration.
The new system might also fix recruitment fees for the agencies in order to prevent them from charging additional cost.
They said the government will find out the reason of manpower unrest in Malaysian and some Middle Eastern countries.
