Thursday, 1 May 2014

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) says several groups participated in snatching of militants from a prison van in Mymensingh, without knowing about each other. Its officials said this was revealed during interrogation of eight of those arrested for involvement with the snatching. Rab Media Wing Director ATM Habibur Rahman told a press briefing at its Uttara headquarters that those involved in militant activities snatched the jailed radicals from the prison van after working out a big plan. Eight arrested for their involvement in the snatching were present at the media briefing. They are Md Kamal Hossain Sabuj, 34, Yusuf Ali Sohag, 20, Md Sohel Rana, 28, Md Morshed Alam, 22, Md Ilias Uddin, 34, Abu Bakar Siddique Swapan, 34, Md Anwar Hossain, 40, and Md Basir Uddin, 20. On February 23, masked gunmen bombed and opened fire on a prison van in Mymensingh’s Trishal, killed a policeman and made off with three Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) convicts responsible for the 2005 serial bombings, according to a news agency.
