Manzur murder case probe gets further time

A court in Dhaka on Tuesday once again extended time for further investigation into the much-talked-about Maj Gen Manzur murder case. Allowing the time-extension plea sought by special police super of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Abdul Kahar Akond, also investigation officer (IO) of the case, Judge Khandker Hasan Mahmud Firoz of the first additional district and sessions court passed the order. The IO submitted the time petition as he failed to complete the task of preparing the further investigation report on the case within the deadline. Allowing the IO the time plea, the court also asked him to submit the further investigation report by July 15. Besides, allowing a defence plea, the court dispensed the prime accused, Gen HM Ershad, also a special envoy to the Prime Minister, with personal appearance till submission of the further investigation report, according to a news agency.
