Marriage of minor girl foiled in Pabna

PABNA, July 25 (UNB): Marriage of a minor girl scheduled to take place Tuesday was finally stopped with the intervention of local administration.
Police rescued Sonia (12), student of class VIII of Sathiya Pilot Girls' High School, from the wedding function in the afternoon.
Police said Saiful Islam, resident of Karikor Para under Sathiya Poura-shava, decided to marry off his daughter Sonia with Afsed (21), of the same upazila.
Receiving information, Sathiya Upazila Nirbahi Officer Akbar Ali with the help of police raided the bride's house and rescued her and arrested the bridegroom's father Akkas Ali.
A case was filed in this connection.
