Martyred Intellectuals Day observed in districts

KHULNA, Dec 15: Martyred Intellectuals Day (Shaheed Buddhigibi Dibosh) was observed in Khulna on Friday. Nation paid homage to the sons of the soil who were annihilated on this day 41 years ago on the eve of independence of the country.
Different political organisations, socio-cultural organisations, educational institutions, chalked out separate programmes marking the significance of the day. The day long programme included placing of floral wreaths at the altar of Shaheed Smriti Shoudha, rally and discussion meeting.
Various organisations including Khulna Press Club, Muktijoddha Sangsad, Bangladesh Awami League and BNP placed floral wreaths at the Smriti Shoudha at midnight.
On the occasion a discussion meeting was held at Awami League party office where AL city unit president and KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque addressed as the chief guest. The meeting was addressed among others by secretary Mizanur Rahman Mizan, district administrator Sheikh Harun-Ur-Rashid, Advocate Chisti Shoarab Hossain, Babul Rana and Principal Shahidul Haque Mintu.
Khulna Press Club, Khulna Union of Journalists, Metropolitan Union of Journalists, Muktijoddha Sangsad, Bangladesh Awami League and BNP, Khulna University, KUET, District Administration, Khulna City Corporation arranged separate discussion meetings and Doa Mahfil at their respective offices on the occasion.
Rangpur
BSS reports from Rangpur: Rangpur Shahittya Parishad (RSP) observed the Martyred Intellectuals' Day-2012 here on Friday demanding immediate trial of the killers of martyred intellectuals, war criminals and anti-liberation forces.
The daylong programmes chalked out by the reputed literary organisation in observance of the day included bringing out procession in the city streets, placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar and discussion meeting. Convener of RSP and former Principal of Rangpur Carmichael College Professor Dr Rezaul Haq chaired the discussion arranged on the Central Shaheed Minar premises.
