Mashrafe\\\'s men eye Banglawash today Dhoni & Co to gun for a solace

FE Online Report | Wednesday, 24 June 2015

Mashrafe bin Mortaza’s men will go to Wednesday's match eyeing a whitewash as Bagladesh meet India in the third and last one-day international (ODI) with an advantage of historic 2-0 series victory. On the other hand, Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s men are expected to play all the tricks they have up their sleeves and put allout efforts to avoid further humiliation by the Tigers, and find a solace by winning this game. The suspense of Banglawash over the two-time World Cup champions has intensified and reached a feverish pitch following the visitors' two consecutive humiliating loss to the home side in the three-match ODI series. Before thumping India in the last two ODIs, Bangladesh whitewashed Pakistan in both Test and the limited overs series about two months back. The Bangladesh-India final ODI will begin at 3:00pm (Bangladesh Standard Time) at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium at Mirpur in Dhaka.
The Tigers achieved the first-ever ODI series win over cricket giants India beating the tourists by 6 wickets in the 2nd match at Mirpur on Sunday following an emphatic 79-run victory in the 1st game on Thursday (June 18). On the eve of the last ODI encounter, Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin made a memorable comment about Bangladesh's new pace sensation Mustafizur Rahman’s ever-present threat. “If there is no counter, then what can we do? Can we kidnap him (Mustafizur Rahman)?,” Ashwin said to ESPN. Left-hander Mustafiz's five-for in the 1st match and six-for in the 2nd dug the visitors' graveyard. With his amazing performances, the 19-year-old bowler from Satkhira spurred Bangladesh to wrap up the series as well as to make the world record of 11-wicket haul in his career's 1st two ODIs, leapfrogging Zimbabwe's bowler Brian Vittori's 10 in 1st two ODIs. If, his off-cutter helps him claim two more wickets in the 3rd and final match on today, Mustafiz can level the record of 13 wickets haul in a 3-match ODI series, made by Australian pacer Ryan Harris against Pakistan in 2010. A five-wicket haul can level the three successive five wickets haul, in three consecutive ODIs, record of Pakistan pacer Waqar Younis against New Zealand and West Indies in November 1990. “It is possible to have a 3–0 and there is nothing to be exclaimed about it, this is a confident team who believe that they can win what they have excelled in this series,” said Bangladesh's bowling coach Heath Streak. ODI captain Mashrafe said, “Cricket is all about a mind game, we are playing the fine cricket with our head in the right place…… we want to play and fight till the last ball and then it would be competitive for any team.” Praising the team’s performance, the captain said, “This team is consistent in its performance, attitude and this is the biggest difference with the previous team. I hope it will continue.” Mashrafe wants to rely on his men saying that the momentum is very important in cricket. “So hopefully boys will keep it up.” Leg spinner Jubair Hossain has been included in the Bangladesh squad for Wednesday's ODI. “He was taken to increase the bowling options,” said chief selector Faruque Ahmed.
