Mass awareness in use of pesticides stressed

RANGPUR, Feb 25 (BSS): Speakers at a day-long training course Thursday emphasised the need for creating awareness and spreading knowledge among the farmers for safer and optimum use of chemical pesticides in the crop fields. Citing various poisonous effects and severe threats being posed to the public health by indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides, they called for disseminating knowledge to the farmers on ways to reduce the use of pesticides in combating pests' attacks and crop diseases. They were addressing the course titled 'Safer Use of Pesticides' organised for the pesticide traders, spray men, officials and farmers by Bangladesh Crop Protection Association (BCPA) at the training centre of the DAE in Lalmonirhat district town. Chaired by Rangpur Regional Sales Manager of Mag Agro Limited Nazrul Islam, the training course was attended by District Plant Protection Specialist of Lalmonirhat Delbar Hossain as the chief guest. Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Mohammad Nuruzzaman, Zonal Manager of Hekim Bangladesh Limited Md Zia, noted social worker and veteran Freedom Fighter Md Abdur Rashid addressed the training course.
