Mass awareness to help check drug abuse

NARSINGDI, May 20 (BSS): Speakers at a meeting here said social awareness of the people could check drug trafficking and its adverse effects on the society.
Terming the drug trading as one of the worst social vices, they underscored the need for building strong resistance to make the society free from drug abuse.
The speakers also urged the law enforcing agencies to take immediate action against drug smuggling. They expressed their resentment over drug trading and abuse of narcotics in the district.
Addressing in the monthly district law and order committee meeting on Sunday they also urged the community leaders to come forward to make the society free from drug abuse and protect the young generation from degradation.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Obaidul Azam chaired the meeting.
Former principal of Narsingdi government college Surjakantha Das, Associate professor Amir Hossain, Secretary of Bangladesh Red Cresent Society Narsingdi unit Abdus Sattar, President of district Jatiya Party Shafiqul Islam and Inspector of Department of Narcotics Control, Narsingdi, Abu Raja Mohammad Hossain spoke on the occasion.
