Mass campaign on reproductive, gender issues

COX'S BAZAR, June 11 (UNB): A special weeklong mass campaign began in Ramu Upazila Sunday under a UNFPA project 'Advocacy on Reproductive Health and Gender Issues through Department of Mass Communication (3rd phase)'.
District Information Office and Upazila Administration organised the campaign to create mass awareness on safe motherhood, gender equality, family planning programme, HIV/AIDS prevention, consequence of early marriage, reproductive health issues and violence against women.
Director of Department of Mass Communication Surath Kumar Sarker, Additional Deputy Commissioner M Arifur Rahman Apu, UNO M Selimuddin and UNFPA Cox's Bazar representative Wali Ahmed Fateh, along others, attended the programme.
Earlier, a colourful rally of government and non-government officials, students and people was brought out on the occasion to draw people's attention on these issues.
The programmes of the campaign included discussion, seminar, mobile folk song, documentary film show, debate, essay writing competition, drama, cultural programme and prize distribution.
District Information Office is implementing extensive motivational campaign in the district with emphasis in one upazila in each year where maternal mortality ratio, population growth rate and HIV/AIDS prevalence risk is higher and literacy rate is lower than the other parts of the country, said an official release.
