Mass Representation Ordinance 1972 to be amended

CHITTAGONG, June 26: President (incharge) of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) MA Latif has hailed Chief Adviser (CA) to the caretaker government Fakhruddin Ahmad for taking step to amend the Mass Representation Ordinance 1972 that deals with electoral process.
In a fax message, the CCCI president mentioned autocracy, originating from the family politics, emerged as a great concern not only for the politicians but also for the entire nation.
He also urged the caretaker government to enact time befitting electoral laws so that the corrupt family members cannot capture state power in future.
In the message, he further recalled the contributions of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and late president Ziaur Rahman with gratitude and said, family members of the two great leaders introduced family politics in the country capitalising the image of the two leaders.
Meanwhile, with a view to reforming the electoral process the government has decided to amend the Mass Represen-tation Ordinance 1972.
