Massive Boro cultivation programme in Narsingdi

NARSINGDI, Dec 22 (BSS): Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken up a massive programme for the cultivation of Boro paddy in Narsingdi during the current season for overcoming food deficit in the district. According to an official source, a total of 53,791 hectares of land has been brought under Boro cultivation in the district. Of the total land, 53,515 hectares would be brought under High Yielding Variety (HYV) and 276 hectares to be brought under local variety cultivation. Muksed Ali, the deputy director of DAE, told BSS that there is no shortage of Boro seedlings in the district. He said farmers of the district have already started transplantation of Boro seedlings in different areas of the district. He said if there is no climate hazard, over 200,000 tonnes of Boro paddy are expected to be produced in the district this season. Ali further said that local DAE provided the farmers with logistic support including seeds, fertilisers and necessary equipment. Besides, Bangladesh Krishi Bank, Sonali Bank, Janata Bank, Agrani Bank and Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB) have been distributing short term crop loan to the farmers of the district.
