Match referee threatens Bangladesh Cricket Broad
Thursday, 23 July 2015
The match referee on the second day of ongoing Chittagong Test threatened Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) with stopping the match over ‘racist behaviour’ of a section of spectators, says the venue manager. Manager Fazle Bari Rubel told bdnews24.com Chris Broad issued the warning after some spectators shouted ‘black, black’ following a row between Tamim Iqbal and Quinton de Kock on Wednesday. They reacted after an unpleasant scene in the 30th over when Bangladesh batsman Tamim Iqbal and South Arica’s wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock exchanged words before the latter barged into the opener with his shoulder. After Broad’s warning, the organisers asked the spectators through loudspeakers and TV screens not to indulge in any further ‘racist slur’. Rubel said the International Cricket Council was always very tough against any ‘racist behaviour’. He said the BCB managed to convince the referee that it was not a big issue. The venue manager described it as a ‘stray incident’, according to bdnews24.com.
