Matia rails against World Bank

Thursday, 30 October 2014

Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury on Thursday slammed the World Bank for their ‘fresh involvement’ in the Padma Bridge project. “We have said that we would provide subsidy in the agriculture sector. But World Bank said there is no need to provide subsidy. Will I ask you (WB) how to spend my money? World Bank now also wants to get involved in the Padma Bridge Project. But we have said no to them as we don’t make the same offer twice,” she said. The agriculture minister said this while addressing a farmers’ gathering organised by Krishak League at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city, according to a news agency.
