Tuesday, 9 June 2015

Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury said on Monday if there is no democracy in the country how BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia could meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Dhaka visit, reports UNB.
"You (Khaleda) said there's no democracy in the country. Then how did you meet the visiting Indian Prime Minister. No one prevented you from meeting Modi," she said.
Matia, also an Awami League (AL) presidium member, said this while addressing a discussion marking the historic June 7, organised by Awami League Dhaka City unit at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city.
The Agriculture Minister said, "You (Khaleda) had rather cancelled your meeting with Indian President Pranab Muikherjee when he had been in Dhaka seeking his appointment. But you met Modi and took photograph with him."
In a meeting with Indian Premier Modi on Sunday, Khaleda said democracy is absent in Bangladesh and there is no rule of law.
Addressing the programme, Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said Khaleda Zia did not meet Pranab Mukherjee as they had thought that their Pakistani and Western masters would install them in power if they oppose India.
Awami League organising secretary Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, office secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, AL city unit general secretary Mofazzel Hossain Chowdhury Maya, among others, spoke at the programme held with city unit acting president MA Aziz in the chair.
