Abdul Matin, the 1952 Language Movement hero, passed away at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in the city this (Wednesday) morning. He was 87. Matin, popularly known as Bhasha Matin for his significant role during the great Language Movement in 1952 and other movements waged in the '50s and '60s to establish Bangla as state language, was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit of the MSMMU on August 19 and later kept on life support there following a surgery after he had suffered a stroke on August 18. His condition sharply deteriorated following surgery after he suffered the stroke, hospital and family sources said. He breathed his last around 6am, according to private TV channels.
